Cedar Key School

Our School

Cedar Key School is located on an island and is the smallest public high school in Florida. The student population, from pre-K through 12th grade, hovers around 250 pupils.

Our school was founded in the 1800s as a private school, and our campus was established on land donated to Levy County with the understanding that the grave of the donor, Eliza Hearns, would be maintained. This grave, along with that of her sister and father, is located at the rear of the present gymnasium.

We are considered an isolated school since the nearest town with a school is more than 30 miles away. However, our rigorous, well-rounded, and individually-tailored education has propelled graduates to top-tier colleges and universities as well as to the U.S. military academies. Our close ties to our island community and Cedar Keyans' support of our school family are also strengths of our school.
The CKS mascot is the shark, and the school colors are purple and yellow. We compete at the middle school and high school levels in High-Q, FFA, cross country, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, baseball, softball, track, and adaptive track.
